Starting with a smaller bit and stepping up in sizes as we went along. We ended up using Cobalt bits with cutting fluid and drilling with medium pressure at 1/2 drill speed. The hardness will wear out a normal high speed drill bit. The factory bumper support is Boron-steel which is extremely tough. It is straight forward but it's the most time consuming part of the installation due to drilling of the factory bumper support for the intercooler mounts. The longest part of our installation is the intercooler.

While the factory intake system is out, we took the opportunity to install the short shifter and symposer delete. Be careful that there are electrical connectors on these components. Remove the factory intake tube and airbox. Next we will install the Cobb Tuning intake, sound symposer delete, and short shift plate. With the large majority of the under car installation complete, let's move onto the top side. This mount will help out tremendously in reducing the movement of the engine and wheel hop. While you're still under the car, go ahead and replace the stock Focus rear lower engine mount with the upgraded Cobb Tuning mount. The installation was straight-forward with the removal of 3 allen heads and vacuum line, shifting of the mounting plate, and replacing the factory piece with the Turbosmart BOV. It's an excellent time to remove the passenger wheel and install the TurboSmart BOV. With the downpipe installed and the v-band reconnected. Nice gains should come from the increased flow! Here is a comparison between the Cobb Tuning catted downpipe and the factory piece. ** installation tip: use a long pry bar or screwdriver to help pop open the v-band clamp when removing the factory downpipe** Remove the factory downpipe, disconnect and pull the O2 sensors with a 22mm wrench or O2 socket. The factory downpipe is held on with a v-band clamp at the turbo and hangers across a small support member at the rear. ** installation tip: leave the bolts on the rear section of the exhaust loose and have a helper adjust and hold the exhaust tips so they are centered in the opening before tightening down** The Cobb Tuning tips are beautiful and with the removal of the heavy suitcase muffler, the car is going to sound awesome. These hangers are significantly stronger and they also use an additional hanger location on the rear to help keep the exhaust stable. Cobb Tuning upgraded exhaust hangers were also used on this installation. The installation of the new Cobb Tuning cat-back exhaust is straight-forward. Once the exhaust is removed you are left with a nice empty void for the new exhuast: We opted to cut the exhaust in a location that can be re-welded together if need be. With the removal of the factory cat-back, there are two options for removal, you can either remove the entire rear subframe or cut the rear muffler section away from the mid section. We will start under the car with the exhaust and downpipe (please make sure that your car is securely off the ground on jack stands).
